Crash and Vehicle Fire Shut Down Southbound Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando
A serious traffic crash involving a passenger vehicle and a tractor-trailer caused a partial shutdown of southbound Orange Blossom Trail early Wednesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). Both vehicles caught fire following the collision, prompting road closures and emergency response near Florida’s Turnpike.
FHP reports that the crash occurred at the intersection of Orange Blossom Trail and Consulate Drive in Orlando.
According to investigators, a Honda Accord was attempting to make a left turn to travel northbound on Orange Blossom Trail when it collided with the left side of a tractor-trailer that was traveling eastbound on Consulate Drive.
Following the impact, both vehicles caught fire, creating a hazardous scene that required emergency crews to close the intersection while the roadway was secured and debris cleared.
Authorities said three people suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash:
- Two individuals were transported to HCA Hunter’s Creek
- One individual was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center
All reported injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
The intersection of Orange Blossom Trail and Consulate Drive remained closed for several hours as crews worked to extinguish the fires, remove damaged vehicles, and investigate the cause of the crash.
FHP has stated that the investigation remains ongoing, and additional details may be released as they become available.
Why Truck Crashes Are Often More Dangerous
Crashes involving tractor-trailers are especially dangerous due to the size, weight, and force of commercial vehicles. When a collision leads to a vehicle fire, the risk of severe injury or death increases significantly.
Common issues investigated in commercial vehicle crashes include:
- Failure to yield or unsafe turns
- Driver distraction or fatigue
- Speed and braking distance
- Visibility at intersections
- Commercial driver training and compliance
- Vehicle maintenance and mechanical issues
Even when injuries appear minor initially, victims may later develop complications such as burns, internal injuries, or orthopedic trauma.
Legal Rights After a Commercial Vehicle Crash in Florida
When a crash involves a tractor-trailer, liability may extend beyond the driver to include:
- The trucking company
- Vehicle owners or lessors
- Maintenance providers
- Employers or contractors
- Manufacturers of defective vehicle components
Injury victims may be entitled to compensation for:
- Medical expenses
- Lost wages and reduced earning capacity
- Pain and suffering
- Future medical care
Preserving evidence early, including vehicle data, fire reports, and surveillance footage, is critical in these cases.
