Chipley Man Killed, Passenger Seriously Injured in U.S. Highway 231 Rollover Crash

A 47-year-old Chipley man died and a 44-year-old Chipley woman suffered serious injuries after a pickup truck left U.S. Highway 231 and overturned multiple times Tuesday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The August 18, 2026 crash occurred shortly before 10 p.m. on U.S. 231, south of State Road 20. The Florida Highway Patrol’s Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating what caused the pickup to leave the roadway.

What Happened in the Fatal Highway 231 Crash?

According to FHP, the pickup truck was traveling south on U.S. Highway 231 with two occupants when it veered to the left.

The truck left the roadway and overturned several times. During the crash, the 47-year-old driver was ejected from the vehicle.

Bay County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived and began performing life-saving measures until emergency medical personnel reached the scene.

Both the driver and the 44-year-old female passenger were transported to a local hospital. The driver later died from his injuries. The passenger suffered serious injuries.

Authorities have not publicly released the identities of those involved.

FHP Traffic Homicide Unit Investigating the Crash

FHP’s Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal rollover.

The available information does not explain why the pickup veered from the roadway. Investigators may examine factors such as vehicle speed, roadway and weather conditions, mechanical problems, driver actions and physical evidence from the crash scene.
