Canadian Man Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash in Davenport, Florida
A 71-year-old man from Ontario, Canada was killed Friday night following a two-vehicle crash in Davenport, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched at approximately 8:49 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026, to a serious crash at Ronald Reagan Parkway and Loma Del Sol Drive in northeast Polk County.
Investigators say the Canadian man was driving a 2025 Chrysler Pacifica eastbound on Ronald Reagan Parkway when he attempted to make a left turn into the Loma Del Sol subdivision. At the same time, a 2019 BMW sedan driven by a 22-year-old woman from Clermont was traveling westbound.
According to the Traffic Homicide Unit’s preliminary findings, the Chrysler crossed into the path of the oncoming BMW, causing the two vehicles to collide.
Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles and were transported by Polk County Fire Rescue to a nearby hospital.
The 71-year-old Canadian driver later died from his injuries after arriving at the hospital.
The 22-year-old Clermont woman was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Ronald Reagan Parkway was closed for approximately three hours while investigators worked the scene and cleared debris.
Detectives are still attempting to notify the victim’s next of kin. Authorities stated that no criminal charges are anticipated at this time, though the investigation remains ongoing.
Crashes involving left-turn maneuvers across oncoming traffic are among the most common causes of serious and fatal collisions in Florida. These crashes often occur when:
- Oncoming vehicle speed is misjudged
- Visibility is limited
- Traffic volume is heavy
- Roadway design lacks protected turn signals
Left-turn crashes frequently result in high-impact, side-collision injuries, which can be especially dangerous for older drivers.
