Bicyclist, 38, Dies After Hit-and-Run Crash West of Lake Worth Beach: What Families Need to Know
A tragic hit-and-run crash west of Lake Worth Beach has claimed the life of 38-year-old Daniel Domingo Martin, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO). Martin was struck on December 10, 2025, while riding his bicycle along Davis Road, and he succumbed to his injuries two days later, on December 12.
This fatal crash is now the subject of an active hit-and-run investigation, as law enforcement continues searching for the driver responsible.
According to PBSO, Martin was traveling southbound on Davis Road when a white Chevrolet pickup truck, believed to be a 2006 or 2007 model, was heading northbound. As the bicyclist and the vehicle approached each other, Martin entered the northbound lane and into the truck’s path.
The collision caused Martin’s bicycle to overturn, ejecting him onto the roadway. Despite stopping momentarily, the driver fled the scene, continuing northbound and leaving Martin critically injured on the roadway.
Martin later died from his injuries at a local hospital on December 12.
The suspect vehicle is believed to have front-end damage, and investigators are urging anyone with information to contact PBSO Investigator Robert Stephan at 561-688-3400, referencing case numbers 25-124714 or 25-124712.
Florida continues to face a high number of serious and fatal hit-and-run crashes — especially involving pedestrians and bicyclists. Under Florida Statute §316.027, drivers involved in a crash that results in injury or death are legally required to:
- Remain at the scene,
- Render reasonable assistance,
- And immediately contact law enforcement.
Leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death is a first-degree felony, punishable by significant prison time.
In many fatal hit-and-run cases, as in Martin’s, delays in medical response can worsen injuries and reduce survival chances — making the act of fleeing even more devastating for families.
Wrongful Death Claims After a Fatal Hit-and-Run Bicycle Accident
Even if fault is initially unclear — such as when a bicyclist enters a vehicle’s lane — a hit-and-run driver still bears civil and criminal liability for leaving the scene. Under Florida’s comparative negligence law, surviving families may pursue compensation even if the victim is found partially at fault.
Potential liable parties may include:
- The hit-and-run driver, once identified
- The vehicle’s owner, if someone else was driving
- Bar or establishment, if alcohol contributed and overserving occurred (Dram Shop liability)
- A government entity, if roadway design or lack of signage contributed
At Flanagan & Bodenheimer Injury & Wrongful Death Law Firm, we evaluate all possible avenues for compensation, which may include:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Loss of support and services
- Mental pain and suffering for surviving family
- Loss of companionship
- Medical bills
- Punitive damages in cases of egregious conduct (such as a driver fleeing the scene)
Our team has successfully represented families throughout South Florida in bicycle fatalities, pedestrian crashes, and hit-and-run wrongful death claims, often involving complex liability disputes.
How Investigators Identify Hit-and-Run Drivers
Law enforcement uses multiple methods to locate fleeing motorists, including:
- Nearby business and residential surveillance footage
- Debris and vehicle part analysis (paint chips, broken lights, grille fragments)
- License plate reader cameras
- Tips from the public
- Body shop reports when a damaged vehicle is brought in
In Martin’s case, the suspected pickup truck is an older white Chevrolet with front-end damage, making it more likely to draw attention in local repair shops.
