Altha Man Killed, Woman and Child Seriously Injured in Semi-Truck Crash in Fountain

A 67-year-old Altha man was killed and two passengers, including a 7-year-old girl, suffered serious injuries Tuesday following a collision between a pickup truck and a semi-truck in Fountain, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol’s Traffic Homicide Unit.

What We Know About the Crash

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at the intersection of Harrington Road and U.S. Highway 231 in Fountain.

Preliminary investigators reported that:

• A Nissan Frontier was traveling on Harrington Road.
• The pickup attempted to cross the lanes of Highway 231.
• Troopers believe the Nissan failed to yield to oncoming traffic.
• A semi-truck traveling on Highway 231 struck the driver’s side of the pickup.

The driver of the Nissan, a 67-year-old man from Altha, suffered fatal injuries and became trapped inside the vehicle.

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office attempted to remove the driver and provide emergency medical assistance before Bay County EMS and Fire Rescue arrived. Despite those efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers riding in the pickup also suffered serious injuries:

• A 39-year-old woman from Altha.
• A 7-year-old girl from Altha.

Both were transported to local trauma centers for treatment.

The driver of the semi-truck, a 55-year-old man, sustained minor injuries.
