80-Year-Old Palm Coast Motorcyclist Killed in Chain-Reaction Crash on SR A1A in Flagler County
A tragic chain-reaction crash on State Road A1A in Flagler County claimed the life of an 80-year-old Palm Coast man Wednesday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The fatal collision involved multiple vehicles traveling northbound and left another motorcyclist seriously injured.
FHP reported that the crash occurred at approximately 12:19 p.m. on January 7, 2026, along northbound SR A1A. Four vehicles were involved:
- A GMC Sierra pickup truck pulling a concrete pump
- A Tri Glide Harley-Davidson motorcycle
- An Electra Glide Harley-Davidson motorcycle
- A Freightliner propane truck
All vehicles were traveling northbound at the time of the collision. Investigators said the GMC Sierra, driven by a 43-year-old Palm Coast man, struck the rear of the Tri Glide Harley-Davidson operated by the 80-year-old Palm Coast resident.
The impact forced the Tri Glide into the Electra Glide motorcycle, which was being driven by a 58-year-old man from Ormond Beach. The GMC Sierra then continued forward and collided with the rear of the Freightliner propane truck.
Both motorcycles and the propane truck came to rest in the northbound lane of SR A1A.
The 80-year-old Tri Glide rider was pronounced dead at the scene. The Electra Glide rider from Ormond Beach sustained serious injuries and was transported for medical treatment. No additional injury details were immediately released.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash, including the sequence of impacts and whether driver inattention, following distance, speed, or vehicle load contributed to the collision.
In multi-vehicle, rear-end chain-reaction crashes involving motorcycles, investigators typically examine:
- Whether a driver failed to maintain a safe following distance
- Driver distraction or inattention
- Speed and braking patterns
- Visibility and roadway conditions
- The weight and braking capacity of vehicles towing heavy equipment
Motorcycles are especially vulnerable in these scenarios due to the lack of physical protection, and even low-speed impacts can be fatal.
