76-Year-Old Man Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash on State Road 200 in Marion County

Michael T. Flanagan, Esq.

A 76-year-old man died Wednesday night following a three-vehicle crash in Marion County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred shortly after 7:30 p.m. on March 11, 2026, along State Road 200 near Dunnellon.

Authorities say the collision involved three vehicles and resulted in one fatality and two minor injuries.

According to investigators, the 76-year-old man was driving southbound on State Road 200 when his vehicle veered into the northbound lanes.

Troopers say the vehicle collided with a northbound car driven by a 37-year-old woman, causing both vehicles to spin.

The impact caused the woman’s vehicle to overturn on the roadway.

A third vehicle, driven by an 86-year-old man traveling behind the woman, then collided with the vehicle driven by the 76-year-old.

Emergency responders arrived at the crash scene shortly after the collision was reported.

The 76-year-old driver died as a result of the crash, while the other two drivers suffered minor injuries, according to authorities.

Three-vehicle crashes often occur when an initial collision creates a chain reaction involving additional vehicles.

Common causes of these types of crashes include:

  • Drivers crossing into oncoming lanes
  • Medical emergencies behind the wheel
  • Distracted or fatigued driving
  • Mechanical failures
  • Poor visibility or road conditions

When a vehicle enters opposing traffic, it can lead to particularly dangerous head-on collisions.

Investigators Examining the Cause

The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate why the 76-year-old driver veered into the northbound lanes.

In serious crashes like this, investigators may examine factors such as:

  • Possible medical emergencies
  • Driver impairment
  • Speed and braking patterns
  • Vehicle mechanical issues
  • Roadway conditions at the time of the crash

Crash reconstruction experts often analyze the scene, vehicle damage, and witness statements to determine what led to the collision.

When crashes involve multiple vehicles, determining liability can be complex.

Investigators may review the actions of all drivers involved and determine whether negligence contributed to the accident.

Potential legal claims may arise when:

  • A driver operates a vehicle negligently or recklessly
  • Dangerous roadway conditions contribute to the crash
  • A defective vehicle component causes loss of control

Families affected by fatal crashes may be able to pursue wrongful death claims if another party’s negligence played a role in the incident.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the deadly crash on State Road 200 near Dunnellon in Marion County.

Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the crash.
