70-Year-Old Woman Dies After Riding Universal Orlando Attraction, State Report Confirms
A 70-year-old woman died after riding the Revenge of the Mummy roller coaster at Universal Orlando Resort in November, according to a newly released report from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS).
According to the state report, the incident occurred on November 25 while the woman was riding the indoor, high-speed roller coaster. During the ride, she reportedly became unresponsive.
Emergency responders were called, and the woman was transported to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The FDACS report did not disclose the woman’s identity or the specific medical cause of death.
Theme parks in Florida are required to report certain incidents, including deaths and serious injuries, to the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, which oversees ride safety inspections statewide.
The FDACS report covered incidents reported between October and December 2025. In addition to the Universal Orlando fatality, the report noted:
- Six injuries reported at Walt Disney World
- No reported injuries during the same period at SeaWorld Orlando, LEGOLAND Florida, or Busch Gardens
While serious incidents at major theme parks are rare, when they do occur, they raise important questions about ride safety, medical screening, emergency response protocols, and disclosure of ride risks to guests.
Even when a death appears to involve a medical emergency, families may still have legal options depending on the circumstances. A thorough investigation is critical to determine whether factors beyond a pre-existing condition played a role.
Potential legal issues may include:
- Whether the ride’s forces exceeded safe design standards
- Whether adequate health warnings were provided to riders
- Whether ride operators followed safety and restraint procedures
- Whether the park responded promptly and appropriately to the medical emergency
- Whether there were known mechanical issues or prior incidents involving the attraction
Under Florida law, surviving family members may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim if negligence contributed in any way to the death.
Possible Compensation in a Theme Park Wrongful Death Case
Depending on the findings of an investigation, recoverable damages may include:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Medical expenses incurred prior to death
- Loss of companionship and protection
- Mental pain and suffering of surviving family members
- Loss of support and services
Large theme parks are typically defended by powerful legal teams and insurers, making early investigation and evidence preservation especially important.
