4 Hospitalized After 4-Vehicle Crash on I-95 in Miami-Dade

Michael T. Flanagan, Esq.

Four people were hospitalized Tuesday morning following a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Miami-Dade County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 5:45 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95 near Northwest 62nd Street/Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Troopers confirmed that four vehicles were involved in the early-morning collision. Emergency responders transported four individuals to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Authorities have not released the identities of the injured individuals or details regarding the severity of their injuries.

Several lanes of I-95 were temporarily shut down as first responders worked to assist victims and clear the wreckage. All lanes have since reopened.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Multi-Vehicle Crashes on I-95

Highway crashes involving multiple vehicles often occur due to:

  • Sudden traffic slowdowns during rush hour
  • Following too closely (tailgating)
  • Distracted driving
  • Speeding
  • Unsafe lane changes
  • Poor visibility during early morning hours

Chain-reaction collisions are especially common on heavily traveled corridors like I-95, where drivers may not have enough time or distance to react to sudden stops.

Determining Liability in Multi-Car Accidents

Multi-vehicle crashes can be legally complex. Liability may involve:

  • One primary negligent driver
  • Multiple at-fault parties
  • Comparative fault under Florida law

Investigators typically review:

  • Crash scene evidence
  • Vehicle damage patterns
  • Traffic camera footage
  • Event data recorders (black box data)
  • Witness statements

Under Florida’s comparative negligence laws, injured parties may still recover damages even if they are partially at fault, though compensation may be reduced proportionally.

Individuals injured in highway crashes may be entitled to compensation for:

  • Emergency medical treatment
  • Hospitalization and rehabilitation
  • Lost wages
  • Pain and suffering
  • Future medical care

Prompt legal guidance can help preserve evidence and protect victims’ rights while insurance investigations are ongoing.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the four-vehicle crash on I-95 near Northwest 62nd Street.
