3 Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash on SR-60 in Osceola County
Three people were killed Monday morning in a three-vehicle crash on State Road 60 in rural Osceola County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The deadly collision happened around 6:45 a.m. on October 5, 2026, near the intersection of SR-60 and Peavine Road in Kenansville.
FHP confirmed that three vehicles were involved in the crash and that three people died. Authorities had not released additional information about the victims or the circumstances leading up to the collision as of the latest report.
What Happened in the SR-60 Crash?
Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to the crash Monday morning and began investigating the scene.
Initial reports indicate that three vehicles were involved, but FHP had not yet provided details about how the collision occurred, the directions the vehicles were traveling, or whether any additional people were injured.
Authorities advised drivers to avoid the affected stretch of SR-60 while troopers investigated the fatal collision and crews worked to clear the roadway.
Because the investigation remains in its early stages, it is important not to speculate about which driver or drivers may have caused the crash.
Investigating a Multi-Vehicle Crash in Florida
Determining what happened in a three-vehicle collision can be more complicated than investigating a crash involving only two vehicles.
Investigators may need to determine the sequence of impacts and whether the actions of one or multiple drivers contributed to the collision. Evidence that may become important can include vehicle damage, skid marks and other physical evidence from the roadway, witness statements, surveillance or traffic camera footage, and electronic information from the vehicles involved.
Investigators may also examine whether factors such as speed, distracted driving, impairment, failure to yield, unsafe passing, or another traffic violation played a role. At this time, however, FHP has not identified any of those factors in connection with the SR-60 crash.
Liability After a Fatal Multi-Vehicle Accident
When several vehicles are involved in a serious Florida crash, determining liability may require examining the conduct of every driver involved.
One driver may be primarily responsible for causing a collision, or the evidence may show that the actions of multiple drivers contributed to the crash. A chain-reaction collision can also create questions about which impact caused a particular injury or death.
Florida follows a modified comparative negligence system. When more than one person contributed to an accident, responsibility may be divided based on each party’s percentage of fault.
An independent investigation can be particularly important following a fatal multi-vehicle accident because the initial police investigation may not address every issue relevant to a potential civil claim.
Wrongful Death Claims After a Fatal Florida Car Crash
When a person is killed because of another party’s negligence, the victim’s estate may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim under Florida law.
Depending on the circumstances and the surviving family members involved, compensation may be available for losses such as funeral and medical expenses, lost support and services, and certain losses experienced by qualifying survivors.
A wrongful death claim is separate from any traffic citation or criminal prosecution that could result from a crash. A family may potentially have a civil claim even when no criminal charges are filed.
However, whether a wrongful death claim exists in this case will depend on what FHP’s investigation ultimately determines about the cause of the collision.
Preserving Evidence After a Serious Osceola County Crash
Evidence can disappear quickly following a major traffic accident. Vehicles may be repaired or destroyed, roadway evidence can fade, and surveillance footage may be overwritten.
For families affected by a fatal crash, an attorney can work to preserve potentially important evidence and investigate the collision independently. This may include obtaining the official crash report, identifying witnesses, requesting available video footage, inspecting the vehicles, reviewing electronic vehicle data, and consulting accident reconstruction professionals when necessary.
These steps can be especially important when several vehicles are involved and there are conflicting accounts of how the crash occurred.
FHP Continues Investigating Deadly SR-60 Crash
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the October 5 collision on State Road 60 near Peavine Road in Kenansville.
Authorities have confirmed that three vehicles were involved and three people were killed. Further details about the victims, the vehicles involved, and the sequence of events leading to the crash had not yet been released.
Additional information may become available as troopers complete their investigation.
We extend our condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this tragic Osceola County crash.
