3 Hospitalized After Multi-Vehicle Crash Involving Box Truck on I-95 in Palm Beach County

Michael T. Flanagan, Esq.

A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 North in Palm Beach County sent three people to the hospital Tuesday evening and caused significant traffic delays near Exit 66 at Forest Hill Boulevard, according to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and Florida 511.

The collision, which occurred during heavy evening traffic, involved a box truck, a pickup truck, and a passenger vehicle, and created congestion across multiple right lanes of the interstate.

Palm Beach County Fire Rescue responded to the scene around 7:15 p.m. after receiving reports of a crash involving multiple vehicles on the northbound lanes of I-95. When crews arrived, they discovered:

  • A box truck with visible front-end damage
  • A pickup truck off to the roadside
  • A passenger vehicle impacted in the collision
  • Additional vehicles pulled over, though not directly involved in the crash

Traffic cameras showed severe congestion and lane blockage as emergency units worked to treat victims and clear debris.

Video shared with CBS12 revealed a white truck that appeared to have collided with a green pickup truck, while another black pickup sat damaged on the shoulder.

Two right lanes were shut down for an extended period, intensifying delays during the height of the evening commute.

According to PBCFR:

  • Three people were transported to local hospitals
  • One victim met trauma alert criteria, indicating potentially serious injuries
  • All patients were transported by ground rescue units

The conditions of the individuals have not yet been disclosed, and the investigation remains active.

Crashes that involve box trucks and commercial vehicles often result in more severe injuries due to:

  • Their increased size and weight
  • Longer stopping distances
  • The difficulty of maneuvering under sudden traffic conditions
  • Cargo weight shifts that affect stability

On a high-speed interstate like I-95, even a momentary lapse in attention or a sudden change in traffic flow can create a cascading effect, resulting in multi-vehicle collisions like this one.

FHP and other authorities will examine whether factors such as:

  • Speeding
  • Following too closely
  • Sudden braking
  • Driver fatigue or distraction
  • Mechanical failure
  • Improperly secured cargo
  • Lane changes made without clearance

played a role in this multi-vehicle crash.

Because box trucks are commercial vehicles, investigators will also review:

  • Maintenance logs
  • Driver hours-of-service records
  • Inspection reports
  • Load documentation
  • Any available dashcam or telematics data

Victims injured in crashes involving commercial vehicles may have claims against:

1. The Commercial Truck Driver

If negligence such as distracted driving, speeding, or unsafe maneuvering contributed to the collision.

2. The Trucking Company

If it failed to properly maintain the vehicle, enforce safety protocols, or ensure the driver was adequately trained and rested.

3. Maintenance Contractors

If mechanical issues such as brake failure or tire defects played a role.

4. Other Drivers Involved

Sometimes multiple drivers share responsibility, especially in chain-reaction or lane-change-related crashes.

5. Vehicle or Equipment Manufacturers

If a mechanical defect contributed to the collision.

Commercial carriers and their insurance companies act quickly after a crash to limit liability. To protect their rights, injured victims need to ensure crucial evidence is preserved, including:

  • Crash scene photos and surveillance footage
  • Black box (ECM) and telematics data
  • Driver qualification and training files
  • Maintenance and repair records
  • Eyewitness statements
  • Physical evidence from the vehicles involved

Without rapid legal intervention, key evidence can be lost or overwritten.
