25-Year-Old Jacksonville Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on 103rd Street

Michael T. Flanagan, Esq.

A 25-year-old Jacksonville woman was killed Monday evening in a hit-and-run crash on the city’s westside, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. on March 9 along 103rd Street near Kinkaid Road.

Authorities say a possible suspect and vehicle involved in the crash have been located as the investigation continues.

According to investigators, a 68-year-old man driving a green 2010 Chevrolet Camaro was traveling westbound on 103rd Street when the collision occurred.

Troopers say the 25-year-old woman was crossing the roadway when the Camaro struck her.

After the impact, authorities say the driver did not stop at the scene and continued westbound on 103rd Street, leaving the victim behind.

Emergency responders arrived shortly after the crash, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Florida Highway Patrol later confirmed that a possible suspect and vehicle connected to the crash have been located.

Investigators have not yet released further details about potential charges or the identity of the driver involved.

The investigation remains ongoing as troopers gather evidence and interview witnesses.

Following the crash, 103rd Street was temporarily shut down in the area near Kinkaid Road while law enforcement officers and crash investigators processed the scene.

Traffic was later reopened once authorities completed their initial investigation.

Leaving the scene of a crash is a serious criminal offense in Florida, particularly when the collision results in injury or death.

Drivers involved in crashes are legally required to:

  • Stop immediately at the scene
  • Provide identification and insurance information
  • Render reasonable assistance to injured individuals
  • Contact emergency services if needed

Failing to remain at the scene can result in severe criminal penalties, including felony charges and lengthy prison sentences.

Fatal pedestrian crashes often involve complex legal issues, especially when the driver initially flees the scene.

Even in hit-and-run cases, victims’ families may still have legal options to pursue compensation through:

  • Insurance claims
  • Uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage
  • Civil wrongful death lawsuits against responsible drivers

In Florida, surviving family members may be able to pursue damages for:

  • Funeral and burial expenses
  • Medical costs related to the crash
  • Loss of financial support
  • Loss of companionship and emotional suffering

A thorough investigation can help determine liability and identify all potential sources of compensation.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal hit-and-run crash on 103rd Street in Jacksonville.

Authorities are working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the collision and whether charges will be filed.
