23-Year-Old Oklahoma Man Killed After Car Crashes Into Water in Cocoa Beach

A 23-year-old Oklahoma man was found dead inside a submerged vehicle Sunday morning after an apparent single-vehicle crash in Cocoa Beach, according to the Cocoa Beach Police Department.

Authorities identified the driver as Ramon Jauregui of Madill, Oklahoma. Preliminary evidence indicates his vehicle left the roadway while traveling at a high rate of speed before entering a body of water near the Banana River relief bridge.

What We Know About the Fatal Cocoa Beach Crash

At approximately 7:20 a.m. on August 9, 2026, Cocoa Beach police responded to West Cocoa Beach Causeway near the Banana River relief bridge.

A passerby had spotted what appeared to be the rear bumper of a vehicle sticking out of the water.

Emergency personnel responded and discovered a 2023 gray Nissan Altima submerged in approximately eight feet of water.

Rescue crews found Jauregui unresponsive in the driver’s seat. The 23-year-old was pronounced dead.

Police Say Vehicle Left Road at High Rate of Speed

According to the Cocoa Beach Police Department’s preliminary investigation, the Nissan was traveling at a high rate of speed before leaving the roadway.

The vehicle ultimately entered the water and became almost completely submerged.

Authorities have not released additional information explaining why Jauregui lost control or exactly when the crash occurred.

Police said they do not currently suspect foul play.

Dive Team Helps Recover Submerged Vehicle

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team assisted Cocoa Beach authorities with recovering the Nissan from the water.

Recovering the vehicle could be an important part of determining what happened in the moments before the crash.

Investigators may examine the Nissan for evidence involving:

• Braking and steering inputs.
• Tire and mechanical condition.
• Airbag deployment.
