20-Year-Old Motorcyclist Killed in Orange County Crash After Driver Turns Into His Path, Troopers Say

Michael T. Flanagan, Esq.

A tragic early-morning crash in Orange County claimed the life of a 20-year-old Kissimmee motorcyclist on Friday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The fatal collision occurred just before 6:30 a.m. on Landstar Boulevard near the entrance to State Road 417, a busy commuter corridor where serious crashes are unfortunately common.

Troopers say:

  • An 18-year-old Orlando man was driving a 2019 Subaru Impreza northbound on Landstar Boulevard.
  • At the same time, a 20-year-old Kissimmee man on a 2007 KTM motorcycle was traveling southbound.
  • The Subaru driver attempted a left turn toward the on-ramp to SR-417.
  • During the turn, the Subaru crossed into the path of the motorcycle, causing a violent side-impact collision.

FHP reports that the right side of the Subaru struck the motorcycle, ejecting the rider.

The motorcyclist was rushed to Osceola Regional Medical Center in critical condition but sadly died shortly after arrival.

The Subaru driver was uninjured and remained on scene, cooperating with the investigation.

Landstar Boulevard, especially near the SR-417 interchange, is known for:

  • Heavy commuter traffic
  • Frequent left turns across oncoming lanes
  • Complex intersections
  • Limited visibility during early-morning hours

Left-turn accidents are one of the most common — and most deadly — types of motorcycle collisions. Motorcycles are smaller, harder to see, and drivers often misjudge their speed or distance. When a vehicle turns left across a motorcycle’s lane, riders typically have no time to brake or avoid impact.

These crashes often involve:

  • High impact forces
  • Direct strikes to the rider’s body
  • Potential ejection from the motorcycle
  • Secondary collisions with the roadway

Even with safety gear, riders are profoundly vulnerable when a vehicle suddenly blocks their right of way.

Potential Liability in This Fatal Orange County Crash

Because the Subaru driver reportedly turned directly into the motorcycle’s path, the investigation will focus on:

  • Whether the driver failed to yield
  • Speed of both vehicles
  • Visibility and lighting conditions
  • Whether distraction played a role
  • Road design or traffic signal issues

In Florida, drivers making left turns must yield to oncoming traffic unless it is unquestionably safe. Failure to do so often leads to civil liability in wrongful death cases.

What Families Should Do After a Fatal Motorcycle Crash

Losing a loved one suddenly is heartbreaking and overwhelming. Families often face mounting questions and pressure from insurance companies within days.

Important steps include:

✔ Obtaining the crash report and traffic camera footage
✔ Preserving the motorcycle and vehicle damage evidence
✔ Avoiding early statements to insurance companies
✔ Consulting with a wrongful death attorney immediately

Motorcycle crashes frequently involve complex fault disputes — especially when a driver claims they “didn’t see” the motorcycle.
