19-Year-Old Killed in Fatal Motorcycle Crash on County Line Road in Lakeland

A 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed Saturday night in a devastating crash on County Line Road in Lakeland, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO).

Deputies say the crash happened around 9:54 p.m. on November 1, involving a green and black Suzuki motorcycle and a black Nissan Altima. The collision occurred near the entrance of the O’Reilly Auto Parts Warehouse, where investigators say the car was pulling out of the parking lot.

According to the Traffic Homicide Unit, the 19-year-old motorcyclist was traveling northbound in the inside lane on County Line Road when the Altima began exiting the warehouse parking lot, attempting to cross the northbound lanes to head westbound.

In an effort to avoid the collision, the motorcyclist moved into the left lane, but the Altima continued into the median, intersecting directly with the motorcycle’s path. The impact threw the rider from the bike, which slid into the southbound lanes and came to rest on the roadway.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies said the driver of the Altima was not wearing a seatbelt but was uninjured. Distracted driving is not suspected, though investigators are still determining whether the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet. A helmet was found at the scene but was not strapped on or near the victim.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the crash, including conducting a reconstruction analysis to determine the exact movements of both vehicles and whether speed or visibility played a role.

Authorities have not yet released the names of those involved, pending next-of-kin notification.
