1 Hospitalized, 2 Cats Rescued After Apartment Fire in New Smyrna Beach
A Wednesday morning apartment fire in New Smyrna Beach sent one person to the hospital and required emergency rescue for two pets, according to the New Smyrna Beach Fire Department.
Crews were dispatched to the 800 block of Maralyn Avenue, where they arrived to find heavy flames coming from a two-story residential apartment building. Firefighters initiated an aggressive attack and were able to quickly knock down the fire before it spread further.
Officials said one resident was able to escape the burning apartment on their own before firefighters arrived. That individual was transported to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation. No details have been released regarding the person’s condition.
Residential structure fires can cause:
- Smoke inhalation injuries

- Loss of housing and personal property
Even when victims manage to escape, the aftermath can be overwhelming — from medical bills to displacement and emotional trauma.
