Serious Crash on U.S. 90 in Escambia County Leaves Two Young Women Injured
A tragic accident on a rain-slicked stretch of U.S. 90 has left two young women seriously injured after their vehicles collided Friday morning, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The crash occurred at approximately 10:00 a.m. near State Road 8 on West Nine Mile Road, during a period of heavy rain that contributed to dangerous driving conditions
Authorities say a 19-year-old woman from Pensacola was driving an SUV eastbound on U.S. 90 when she attempted to pass another vehicle. During the maneuver, the driver lost control of the SUV, likely due to the slippery roadway. The SUV entered the westbound lanes and began to overturn.
At the same time, a 20-year-old woman from Niceville was driving a sedan westbound on the same road. Unable to avoid the SUV that suddenly veered into her lane, she struck the SUV on the driver’s side.
Both drivers were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries, according to the FHP. The names of those involved have not been released, and no further updates on their conditions were immediately available.
In single or multi-vehicle accidents like this, liability can be complex. Factors that may determine legal responsibility include:
- Speed and whether the driver was operating the vehicle too fast for weather conditions
- Unsafe passing or failure to yield right of way
- Road maintenance, drainage issues, or poorly marked lanes
- Vehicle conditions, such as tire tread and brake functionality
Although both drivers sustained injuries, the at-fault party may still be subject to a personal injury claim filed by the other party to recover damages.
Victims of serious car accidents may be entitled to compensation for:
- Medical expenses (emergency care, hospital stays, physical therapy)
- Lost wages due to missed work
- Pain and suffering
- Vehicle damage
- Long-term rehabilitation or permanent disability
