Pedestrian Hospitalized After Being Struck by Car at Busy Palm Beach Intersection
A 26-year-old woman was injured after being struck by a vehicle at a busy Palm Beach intersection on Tuesday, July 23, according to the Palm Beach Police Department.
The collision occurred around 1:05 p.m. at the intersection of Cocoanut Row and Royal Poinciana Way, a high-traffic area near downtown Palm Beach and the Royal Poinciana Plaza. Police spokesperson Sgt. Michael Ogrodnick stated that the woman was crossing the intersection when she was struck by a vehicle.
Palm Beach Fire Rescue responded to the scene and transported the injured pedestrian to a nearby hospital. While the extent of her injuries has not been disclosed, officials noted she was conscious, sitting up, and speaking with hospital staff upon arrival.
The crash resulted in the temporary closure of the westbound lanes of the Flagler Memorial Bridge, a key route linking West Palm Beach and Palm Beach. The lanes reopened shortly after 2 p.m., according to a statement from the town.
This incident highlights the ongoing risks pedestrians face in South Florida’s busy intersections. Palm Beach, in particular, sees heavy foot and vehicle traffic near popular destinations such as The Breakers, Worth Avenue, and various dining and retail areas. Intersections like Cocoanut Row and Royal Poinciana Way can be particularly hazardous if drivers are distracted or speeding, or if crosswalks are poorly marked.
Under Florida law, drivers have a legal duty to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and exercise reasonable care when operating their vehicles. When they fail to do so, resulting injuries may give rise to a personal injury claim against the at-fault driver.
