Man Dies After Being Thrown From Car in Fiery Hollywood Crash
A man was killed early Tuesday morning after being ejected from his vehicle during a fiery crash on State Road 7 in Hollywood, according to Hollywood Fire Rescue.
Officials said the crash occurred around 2:52 a.m. in the northbound lanes of State Road 7, just south of Mayo Street.
When rescue crews arrived, they found the car fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze. Tragically, the driver had already been thrown from the vehicle during the impact and was found dead nearby.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
Hollywood Police closed the intersection while investigators worked at the scene, and Florida Power & Light was called in to assess a utility pole damaged in the crash due to significant impact and exposed rebar. Drivers were advised to take Southwest 56th Avenue as an alternate route.
When a driver or passenger is ejected from a vehicle, the outcome is often fatal or life-threatening. Ejections typically occur when:
- Seatbelts are not worn
- The vehicle rolls over
- A high-speed crash causes the body to break through windows or doors
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), wearing a seatbelt is the most effective way to prevent ejection and reduce the risk of death in serious crashes.
Potential Legal Considerations
When a fatal accident like this occurs, investigators will look at factors such as:
- Vehicle safety features – Did a seatbelt or airbag fail to function properly?
- Road conditions and visibility – Were poorly maintained roads or inadequate lighting factors?
- Third-party liability – Was another driver involved, or did a mechanical defect play a role?
If another party’s negligence contributed to the crash—such as unsafe road design, vehicle defects, or another reckless driver—the victim’s family may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim.
Florida law allows immediate family members of accident victims to file wrongful death claims to seek compensation for:
- Funeral and burial expenses
- Medical bills related to the crash
- Loss of income and financial support
- Pain and suffering for surviving family members
Wrongful death claims must be filed within a strict timeframe, known as the statute of limitations, making it crucial for families to speak with an attorney as soon as possible.
