2 Workers Injured, One Critically, in North Miami Beach Construction Site Accident
Two workers were rushed to the hospital Monday morning following a serious accident at an apartment tower construction site on 16375 Biscayne Blvd., according to officials with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and the North Miami Beach Police Department.
Authorities said the incident, reported around 9:30 a.m., may have been caused by a mechanical failure at the high-rise construction site. According to police, one worker was electrocuted, which caused a second worker to fall approximately nine stories from scaffolding.
Emergency crews transported both men to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital. The worker who suffered electrocution is in stable condition, while the worker who fell remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
Police described the event as an “industrial accident” and confirmed that an investigation is ongoing.
Construction sites are among the most dangerous workplaces in Florida. Hazards such as electrical exposure, faulty equipment, unsafe scaffolding, and inadequate safety protocols can lead to catastrophic injuries or death.
Falls remain the leading cause of fatalities in construction, accounting for more than one-third of all deaths in the industry, according to OSHA. Electrocution is also a major risk, often caused by exposed wiring, faulty machinery, or failure to follow lockout/tagout safety procedures.
Potential Legal Claims After Construction Accidents
In cases like this, injured workers and their families may have multiple legal avenues for compensation:
- Workers’ Compensation Claims: In Florida, most construction employees are entitled to medical care, wage replacement, and disability benefits after workplace injuries.
- Third-Party Liability Claims: If the accident was caused by faulty machinery, defective scaffolding, or negligent subcontractors, victims may also file lawsuits against manufacturers or third-party companies.
- Wrongful Death Claims: If a construction accident results in a fatality, surviving family members may pursue a wrongful death lawsuit for funeral expenses, lost financial support, and loss of companionship.
Because construction projects often involve multiple contractors, property owners, and equipment suppliers, determining liability requires a thorough investigation.
