All five people who died were members of an aircraft cleaning crew traveling in a van owned by Professional Ocean Service Corp. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office identified the victims as Rolando Aleman Leon, 55; Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, 53; Julio C. Pineda, 75; Carlos Acosta Fajardo, 53; and Javierkys Reyes Quevedo, 47.

Two other people in the van survived. The aircraft’s pilot and co-pilot also survived.

The National Transportation Safety Board has recovered the cockpit voice recorder and begun reviewing flight data as investigators attempt to determine why the aircraft overran the runway.

According to the NTSB’s investigator-in-charge, preliminary recorded data showed the aircraft had a ground speed of 65 knots at the final moment for which data was available. Investigators also said there was no indication in the recorded data that the aircraft’s speed brakes or thrust reversers were deployed.

Those findings raise important questions, but they do not establish why the systems were not shown as deployed or who, if anyone, was responsible. The NTSB has emphasized that the investigation remains in its early stages and has not reached a conclusion about the cause of the crash.

Aircraft Traveled About 1,300 Feet Beyond the Runway

Investigators said the Boeing 767 traveled approximately 1,300 feet beyond the end of the runway.

The aircraft had arrived in Miami following a roughly two-hour flight from Puerto Rico while storms and strong winds were reported in the area.

MIA does not have an Engineered Materials Arresting System, or EMAS, at the end of the runway involved in the crash. EMAS uses crushable material designed to help slow an aircraft that overruns a runway.

However, the absence of EMAS does not itself establish a safety violation or negligence.

Miami International Airport has stated that Runway 12/30 has the full 1,000-foot Runway Safety Area required by the Federal Aviation Administration and that EMAS is generally used where space limitations prevent an airport from providing the full safety area.

Airport officials said MIA undergoes annual FAA safety inspections and has consistently complied with federal airfield safety requirements.

Whether additional runway protection could have changed the outcome will be a matter for investigators and aviation safety experts to evaluate.

Hollywood Police continue to investigate the September 7 shooting at the high-rise located at 4010 South Ocean Drive.

The victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the lobby shortly after 1 p.m. Officers provided first aid before fire rescue crews transported the person to a hospital in critical condition.

Police searched the building for several hours, and portions of the lobby remained closed the following day.

The 62-year-old rider died from his injuries. His passenger, also from Dunnellon, was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Investigation Into Fatal I-275 Motorcycle Crash Continues

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal motorcycle crash on southbound I-275 near milepost 53 in Hillsborough County.

According to FHP, the 62-year-old Dunnellon man lost control of the motorcycle before it left the roadway and overturned.

The rider died from his injuries. His 62-year-old female passenger, also from Dunnellon, was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities had not announced what caused the rider to lose control or reported that another vehicle was involved.

The September 7, 2026 crash happened at approximately 6:04 a.m. south of Palm Parkway.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the pedestrian was walking west and entered the southbound lanes of South Apopka-Vineland Road outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a Nissan Altima driven by a 57-year-old Orlando man.

The impact propelled the pedestrian into the outside lane, where FHP said he was then struck by the undercarriage of a Nissan Cube driven by a 47-year-old Orlando man.

The Altima driver also reported that a third vehicle, possibly a white SUV, may have struck the pedestrian before continuing southbound.

The driver of the Nissan Cube initially continued traveling but later returned to the scene, according to FHP. Investigators are still searching for the driver of the suspected third vehicle.

The pedestrian was transported to Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

What Happened in the Lake Buena Vista Pedestrian Crash?

According to FHP’s preliminary account, the Nissan Altima and Nissan Cube were both traveling southbound in the outside lane of South Apopka-Vineland Road.

The 76-year-old pedestrian was walking west when he entered the southbound travel lanes outside a marked crosswalk.

FHP said the front-right side of the Altima struck him.

The initial impact propelled the pedestrian into the outside lane, where the undercarriage of the Nissan Cube subsequently struck him.

The Altima driver told investigators that a third vehicle, possibly a white SUV, also struck the pedestrian.

The Cube driver continued south after the collision but later returned to the scene. FHP said the vehicle had undercarriage damage consistent with the crash.

The suspected third driver had not been located.

FHP Searching for Possible White SUV

One of the most important unresolved questions is the identity of the driver of the third vehicle.

FHP said the Altima driver reported that a possible white SUV also struck the pedestrian in the outside lane and continued southbound.

Investigators have not yet confirmed the make, model or identity of that vehicle.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the September 7 fatal pedestrian crash on South Apopka-Vineland Road south of Palm Parkway.

FHP said the 76-year-old Orlando man was first struck by a Nissan Altima after entering the roadway outside a marked crosswalk and was subsequently struck by a Nissan Cube.

Investigators are also searching for a possible third vehicle, described as potentially being a white SUV, that may have struck the pedestrian before leaving the area.

The pedestrian was transported to Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Anyone with information about the unidentified vehicle or driver has been asked to contact FHP or CRIMELINE.

The September 7, 2026 crash happened at approximately 5 a.m. about half a mile south of Howell Road near Walnut Hill.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Nissan Rogue driven by a 23-year-old McDavid man was traveling north on Highway 97 when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound GMC Sierra.

The pickup carried four people: a 37-year-old man from Uriah, Alabama, an adult woman and two girls, ages 3 and 6.

Three medical helicopters were used to transport the pickup driver, adult female passenger and 3-year-old girl to Pensacola hospitals as trauma alerts. The 23-year-old Nissan driver and 6-year-old girl were also transported to hospitals.

FHP continues to investigate why the Nissan crossed into opposing traffic.

What Happened in the Highway 97 Head-On Crash?

According to FHP, the Nissan Rogue was traveling north on Highway 97 when it crossed the centerline south of Howell Road.

The Nissan then collided head-on with the GMC Sierra traveling south.

All five people involved were injured seriously enough to require hospital treatment.

The response involved Escambia County Fire Rescue crews from the Walnut Hill, McDavid and Molino stations, along with Escambia County EMS and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

Highway 97 south of Walnut Hill was completely closed for several hours while emergency crews treated the injured and investigators worked at the scene.

Three Victims Airlifted as Trauma Alerts

The severity of the collision resulted in three separate medical helicopters responding to transport victims.

The 37-year-old pickup driver, the adult woman and the 3-year-old girl were each airlifted to Pensacola-area hospitals as trauma alerts.

FHP said the 6-year-old girl and the Nissan driver were also transported to hospitals.

Authorities had not released additional information about their conditions or the specific injuries they suffered.

Why Did the Nissan Cross the Centerline?

The SUV was driven by a 31-year-old Cocoa woman and was carrying three children, ages 9, 3 and 1.

The 23-year-old driver died at the scene. The woman and all three children were transported to a hospital with injuries described as minor and are expected to recover.

What Happened in the Baker County Head-On Crash?

According to FHP’s preliminary crash report, the 23-year-old man was traveling east on U.S. 90 when his vehicle entered the westbound side of the roadway near Tiger Lake Road.

The vehicle then collided head-on with the SUV traveling in the opposite direction.

The eastbound driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency crews transported the SUV driver and the three young children to a hospital. Authorities said their injuries were minor.

FHP had not released additional information explaining why the man’s vehicle crossed into the opposing lane.

According to emergency responders, witnesses reported seeing the aircraft strike a power line before crashing onto the roadway. Titusville firefighters extinguished the resulting fire, but Hood was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating what caused the fatal crash.

What Happened in the Titusville Plane Crash?

Emergency agencies responded to the aircraft crash near State Road 405 Monday morning.

According to a statement from responding agencies, witnesses reported that the single-engine aircraft struck a power line before coming down on the roadway.

The aircraft caught fire following the crash. Titusville firefighters extinguished the flames with assistance from Space Coast Regional Airport Aircraft Rescue.

Hood was the only person aboard the aircraft and was pronounced dead.

The available reports do not indicate that anyone on the ground was injured.

Hood’s death is being mourned in Cocke County, Tennessee, where he practiced medicine for decades.

According to Family Practice Center, Hood helped establish the Newport practice in 1982.

He graduated from the University of Tennessee in Memphis before completing his internship and residency at East Tennessee State University. He later became certified in family practice and was a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

His community involvement extended beyond medicine. His practice said Hood served as scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 497 and as a team leader for a search-and-rescue team. He was also involved with the Newport Theatre Guild and owned Goodwater Vineyard.

Investigation Into Titusville Plane Crash Continues

Federal authorities continue to investigate the fatal plane crash near State Road 405 in Titusville.

Witnesses reported that the single-engine aircraft struck a power line before crashing onto the roadway and catching fire. Dr. Michael Hood, the aircraft’s sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The FAA and NTSB are participating in the investigation, along with several state and local agencies. Authorities had not announced what caused the aircraft to go down.

The September 7, 2026 crash happened near mile marker 166 in unincorporated St. Lucie County. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the truck was traveling north in the outside lane when it partially entered the paved shoulder, returned to the travel lanes and overturned.

The truck then struck a guardrail and came to rest on its roof.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A 31-year-old Miami man who was also inside the truck was flown to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce, where authorities said he was in stable condition.

FHP continues to investigate what caused the truck to leave its lane.

What Happened in the St. Lucie County Turnpike Crash?

According to FHP, the box truck was traveling northbound on Florida’s Turnpike when it partially entered the outside paved shoulder near mile marker 166.

The truck then re-entered the travel lanes and overturned before colliding with a guardrail along the outside shoulder.

Witnesses traveling behind the truck described seeing it move from side to side before the rollover.

One witness said it initially appeared that the driver could have been trying to avoid another vehicle. He also raised the possibility that the driver may have fallen asleep, but emphasized that he could not say what actually caused the crash.

Those observations have not been confirmed by investigators.

FHP has not determined why the truck initially left its lane.

Witnesses Describe Truck Swerving Before Rollover

Witnesses told local reporters that they were traveling directly behind the moving truck when they noticed it begin swerving from left to right.

They described the truck moving sharply left and then back to the right before the driver lost control. According to their account, the truck rolled twice before striking the guardrail.

The witnesses stopped and called 911.

They reported finding the truck upside down with one occupant unresponsive and another conscious and responsive inside.

Witness accounts can provide investigators with important information, but they do not establish why a crash occurred. FHP will need to compare those statements with physical and electronic evidence before reaching conclusions about the cause.

What Caused the Box Truck to Leave the Road?

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

What Happened at Miami International Airport?

The cargo plane was attempting to land at Miami International Airport when it overran Runway 30, according to the FAA.

Video captured the aircraft leaving the runway before the crash shortly before 2 p.m.

The plane eventually came to rest in a field beside a roadway near two semi-trucks after striking multiple vehicles.

Emergency crews encountered heavy flames and smoke, including fires involving the aircraft’s engine compartments.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue deployed approximately 200 firefighters for firefighting, search-and-rescue and technical rescue operations.

The pilot and co-pilot were reportedly trapped inside the aircraft and had to be rescued. Other victims were trapped inside vehicles struck during the crash and required extrication.

Five People Killed and Five Hospitalized
